Gather Materials
Before you begin sewing your own pot holder, gather the necessary materials. You will need:
- Cotton fabric (or heat-resistant fabric for the lining)
- Insulated batting
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Straight pins
- Thread
Cut Fabric and Batting
Using your scissors, cut two pieces of your chosen fabric and one piece of insulated batting to the desired size of your pot holder. Most standard pot holders are around 8 inches by 8 inches.
Layer and Pin
With the right sides of the fabric facing each other, place the insulated batting in the middle and layer the fabric on top. Use straight pins to secure all three layers together.
Sew
Using your sewing machine, stitch around the edges of your pinned layers, leaving a small gap for turning the pot holder inside out. Once turned right side out, stitch the gap closed.
Add Finishing Touches
To add a bit of flair to your pot holder, consider adding a loop or hook to hang it on. Cut a small piece of ribbon or twill tape and fold it in half, then sew it to one of the corners of your pot holder.
