The Different Types of Dart Games
Whether you’re a casual player or a serious dart enthusiast, there are many different types of dart games to keep you entertained for hours. From classic games like 301 and Cricket to more unique variations like Around the Clock and Shanghai, there is something for everyone. In this article, we’ll explore five popular types of dart games and how to play them.
01. 301
301 is one of the most widely played and popular dart games. The objective of the game is to be the first player to reach exactly 0 points. Each player starts with 301 points and takes turns throwing three darts at the board. The score is deducted from the total, and the player must aim for a double to start their journey to 0. Once a player reaches zero, they must land a double or the bullseye to win the game. If a player exceeds zero, their score is reset to their previous turn’s score.
02. Cricket
Cricket is a strategic and challenging dart game that requires players to target specific numbers on the dartboard. The objective of the game is to score the most points by closing out numbers and hitting the bullseye. The numbers 15 through 20 and the bullseye are the key targets, and players must hit each number three times to close it out. Once a number is closed, subsequent hits on that number earn points, while misses subtract points. The game is typically played with two teams, and the team that closes all the numbers and has the highest score wins.
03. Around the Clock
Around the Clock is a fun and challenging dart game that tests your dart-throwing accuracy and timing. The objective of the game is to hit each number on the dartboard, from 1 to 20, in numerical order. Players take turns throwing one dart at a time, starting with 1 and progressing clockwise around the board. If a player misses the targeted number, they must keep throwing until they hit it. The game finishes when a player successfully hits 20 and ends on the bullseye.
04. Shanghai
Shanghai is an exciting and competitive dart game that focuses on hitting specific sections of the dartboard. The objective of the game is to score the highest points on each number from 1 to 20, with the bullseye worth 50 points. Players take turns throwing three darts at each number in ascending order. To score in Shanghai, a player must hit a single, double, and triple of the targeted number in any order or a bullseye for that number. The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
05. Cutthroat
Cutthroat is a fast-paced and strategic dart game that is played with three or more players. The objective of the game is to eliminate your opponents by reaching a set number of points before they do. Each player starts with the same number of points, often 301 or 501, and takes turns throwing darts. Players must aim for doubles or triples to score higher points and reduce their opponent’s score. If a player reaches zero, they are eliminated from the game. The last player standing, or the player with the lowest remaining score, wins.
