5 Recipes to Make with Pantry Staples
With many people relying on pantry staples during the pandemic, it can be a challenge to come up with meal ideas that are both satisfying and use ingredients commonly found in the pantry. Here are five recipes that are delicious, easy to make, and only require ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.
Spaghetti Aglio e Olio
This classic Italian pasta dish only requires a few pantry staples: spaghetti, olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, and salt. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions, and while it’s cooking, heat the olive oil and garlic in a pan. Once the garlic is golden brown, add the red pepper flakes and cook for one more minute. Toss the cooked spaghetti in the garlic oil mixture and serve hot.
Chickpea Stew
This hearty stew is perfect for chilly nights and can be made with canned or dried chickpeas, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, vegetable broth, canned tomatoes, and your choice of spices. Start by sautéing the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery in a pot. Add the spices, chickpeas, canned tomatoes, and vegetable broth and simmer for 25 minutes. Serve hot with crusty bread.
Fried Rice
This Asian-inspired dish is a great way to use up leftover rice and can be customized with whatever vegetables and protein you have on hand. Start by heating up some oil in a pan, and add diced onions, garlic, and vegetables. Once the vegetables are cooked, add the cooked rice, soy sauce, and any additional seasonings or protein. Cook until heated through.
Tuna Salad
This classic lunchtime staple can be made with canned tuna, mayonnaise, celery, onion, and your choice of spices. Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and serve on bread or crackers. Add some variety by adding chopped pickles, diced apples, or raisins.
Oatmeal Cookies
Who says you can’t have dessert with pantry staples? These oatmeal cookies only require oats, flour, sugar, butter, egg, vanilla extract, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix all of the ingredients together and bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes. Enjoy warm with a cold glass of milk.
