Paper Plate Christmas Trees
Paper plates are great for crafting with kids, and they’re perfect for making Christmas trees. Start by cutting a paper plate in half, then have your child paint it green. Once the paint is dry, help your child cut out small circles from construction paper to use as ornaments. They can glue the circles to the tree, then add a trunk and a star to the top using brown and yellow construction paper. Hang the finished trees on a wall or door to decorate your home for the holidays.
Popsicle Stick Trees
Popsicle sticks are another versatile material for crafting. For this project, you’ll need green popsicle sticks, glue, construction paper, and a star cutout. Help your child make a triangle shape with the popsicle sticks, then glue them together. Once the glue is dry, have your child cut out small circles from construction paper to use as ornaments. They can glue the circles to the sticks, then add a trunk and a star to the top using brown and yellow construction paper. Your child can also use markers or paint to add extra details to the tree.
Handprint Christmas Tree
A handprint Christmas tree is a fun way to create a keepsake of your child’s handprint while also making a festive decoration. Start by having your child paint their hand green, then carefully press it onto a piece of white paper. Once the paint is dry, help your child cut out the handprint and glue it onto a colored piece of construction paper to create the tree. They can add small circles as ornaments and a star at the top using yellow construction paper.
Pine Cone Christmas Trees
If you have access to pine cones, they can make great Christmas trees. Have your child paint the pine cones green, then let them dry. Once the paint is dry, help your child glue small pom poms or felt circles to the “branches” of the pine cone to mimic ornaments. They can add a trunk made from construction paper and a star at the top using yellow construction paper.
Felt Christmas Trees
Felt is a great material for crafting because it’s easy to work with and doesn’t fray. For this project, you’ll need green felt, scissors, and various colors of felt for ornaments. Cut out a large triangle shape from the green felt to use as the tree, then cut out small circles, squares, and other shapes from the various colors of felt for ornaments. Your child can glue the ornaments onto the felt tree in any pattern they like.
