Start with a cleaning solution
Before you begin to shine your dress shoes, you need to clean them properly. Use a cleaning solution that is suitable for leather shoes. You may use a store-bought solution or make one at home by mixing equal parts of water and white vinegar. Dip a soft cloth in the solution and rub it gently over the shoes.
Apply the shoe polish
Once the shoes are cleaned, it’s time to apply shoe polish. Choose a polish color that matches your shoes. Apply the polish in a circular motion using a soft brush or a cloth. Make sure to cover the entire shoe, including the edges, and let it dry for at least 15 minutes.
Buff the shoes
After the polish has dried, use a horsehair brush or a cloth to buff the shoes. Brush the shoes in a back-and-forth motion with moderate pressure. This process will remove any excess polish and give the shoes a shine. If you want a higher shine, add a small amount of water to the brush or cloth and continue buffing.
Use a shoeshine sponge
To add an extra shine to your shoes, use a shoeshine sponge. These sponges contain a shining agent that will give your shoes a glossy finish. Rub the sponge gently over the shoes in a circular motion. Be sure to cover the entire shoe, including the edges. Allow the shoes to dry for a few minutes before buffing them again.
Store the shoes properly
After shining your dress shoes, it’s essential to store them correctly. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use shoe trees to maintain their shape and prevent creases. If you’re storing them in a box, make sure to stuff them with tissue paper to prevent them from losing their shape.
