Simply place the tip of the pen or pencil under the folded portion of the staple and apply gentle upward pressure. The staple should easily lift out of the paper. Be careful not to press down too hard to avoid tearing the document.
Use a Paperclip
Another handy tool you can use to remove a staple without a staple remover is a paperclip. Unfold the paperclip to create a straight, rigid wire. Then, insert one end of the paperclip under the folded part of the staple and slowly twist it upward. The staple should pop out as you twist. This method works best for larger staples or when dealing with multiple layers of paper.
Use your Fingernails
If you don’t have any office supplies readily available, you can always rely on your own fingernails to remove a staple. Position your fingernail under the folded portion of the staple, with the edge of your nail against the paper. Apply gentle pressure and slowly lift your nail upward. The staple should come loose and can be easily pulled out. This method is best for smaller staples that aren’t too deeply embedded into the paper.
Use a Butter Knife
If you’re in a pinch and don’t have any traditional office supplies on hand, a butter knife can be a useful alternative. Insert the tip of the butter knife under the folded part of the staple and gently pry it upward. As you lift the knife, the staple should come out. Be careful not to press too hard or use excessive force to avoid damaging the document or injuring yourself.

If none of the previous methods work for you, you can try using a pair of scissors to remove a staple. Insert one of the scissor blades under the folded part of the staple and apply upward pressure.
