Understand the anatomy of your food processor
Before you start cleaning your food processor, it’s important to understand its anatomy. A standard food processor is made up of several components including the motor base, a work bowl, a lid, a pusher, and various blades and discs. Understanding how the pieces fit together will help you take it apart and clean it efficiently.
Disassemble and soak in warm, soapy water
The first step to cleaning your food processor is to disassemble it. Take every piece apart and soak it in warm, soapy water for about 10-15 minutes. This will help to soften any food debris or residue that has built up over time. Avoid using hot water as it may warp the plastic components of your food processor.
Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away residue
After soaking, use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away any remaining residue on the various components. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies, including the spaces between blades and discs. If you’re having a hard time scrubbing away debris, try using a mixture of warm water and white vinegar.
Dry and sanitize
Once you’ve scrubbed everything down, rinse each component well with warm water and then dry them thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. After you’ve wiped them down, sanitize your food processor by wiping down the components with a 50-50 mixture of water and rubbing alcohol. Be sure to let everything dry completely before putting it back together.
Store in a clean, dry place
After your food processor has been effectively cleaned, it’s important to store it in a clean, dry place to prevent the growth of bacteria. Store each component separately and be sure to put the lid on top of the work bowl to keep everything dust-free. Avoid storing your food processor near a sink or other area where moisture may accumulate.
