Gather Materials
The first step in making your own bread basket is to gather your materials. You will need a long, flexible piece of wood, such as a willow branch or grapevine, a pair of wire cutters, and some ribbon or twine. You may also want to gather some fresh or dried flowers, leaves, or other decorative items to add to your basket.
Cut the Wood
Using the wire cutters, cut the wood into sections of equal length. The length of the sections will depend on the size of the basket you want to make. You will need a minimum of six sections to create the base of the basket, and more if you want to create sides or handles.
Bend the Wood
Soak the sections of wood in water for several hours to make them pliable. Then, one by one, bend them into a U-shape by holding one end in each hand and bending the wood gently with your fingers. Use the wire cutters to trim the ends of the wood as needed to create a smooth curve.
Weave the Basket
Take two of the bent wood sections and place them side by side. Take another section of wood and weave it over one of the first two sections, under the other, and then over the last. Continue weaving in this pattern, adding more sections of wood as needed, until you have created a circular base for your basket. You can then weave up the sides of the basket and create handles if desired.
Add Decorations
Once your basket is complete, you can add decorative elements such as ribbon, twine, or flowers to give it a personal touch. You can also use your basket to display fresh bread, fruit, or other items.
