What is a Cezve?
A cezve, also known as a briki or ibrik, is a small copper or brass pot traditionally used to make Turkish coffee. It has a distinctive shape, with a narrow top and a wider bottom, and a long handle.
Turkish Coffee
Turkish coffee is a strong and sweet coffee made by simmering finely ground coffee beans and sugar in a cezve with water. It is typically served in small cups, and is a staple of Turkish culture.
Other Types of Coffee
While the cezve is traditionally used to make Turkish coffee, you can use it to make other types of coffee as well. For example, you can use it to make Greek coffee, which is similar to Turkish coffee but does not include sugar.
You can also use a cezve to make stove-top espresso. While it may not have the same crema as an espresso machine, it can still make a strong and flavorful coffee.
How to Make Other Types of Coffee in a Cezve
To make Greek coffee in a cezve, simply follow the same steps as making Turkish coffee, but omit the sugar. Bring water to a boil, add finely ground coffee, stir, and let it simmer for a few minutes.
To make stove-top espresso in a cezve, fill the bottom of the pot with water and place it on the stove. Add finely ground espresso beans to the top of the pot, and screw on the top part of the cezve. When the water boils, the pressure will force the water through the coffee and into the top part of the pot, much like an espresso machine.
While a cezve is traditionally used to make Turkish coffee, it can be used to make other types of coffee as well. Experiment with different types of coffee and find out what works best for you in your cezve.
