The Basics of Cheese Fondue and Chocolate Fondue

First and foremost, the main difference is the material in which the pots are made. Cheese fondue sets are typically made of earthenware or ceramic and have a larger volume to accommodate the cheese and other ingredients. Chocolate fondue sets, on the other hand, are typically made of stainless steel or porcelain and are smaller in size. The reason for this is that chocolate fondue typically requires less volume than cheese fondue.
Fork Design and Quantity
Another difference is the design of the forks that come with each set. Cheese fondue forks are usually longer since it requires that the diners reach the center of the pot, which is where the cheese is. These forks also typically have two prongs which are used to spear the bread and meat. Chocolate fondue forks, on the other hand, are shorter and only have one prong since the food being dipped is smaller and lighter.
The quantity of forks provided with each set also differs. Cheese fondue sets usually come with six to eight forks, while chocolate fondue sets come with four to six forks. This is because cheese fondue is often a communal dish, while chocolate fondue is usually a more intimate dessert.
Heating Method and Temperature Control
The heating method and temperature control between the two sets are also different. Cheese fondue sets are usually heated by a candle or a burner that is fueled by alcohol gel. The low flame keeps the cheese melted but not boiling. Chocolate fondue sets, on the other hand, often come with an electric base that heats the chocolate at a controlled temperature. This allows for the chocolate to melt quickly and stay at the right consistency throughout the meal.
