Supplies Needed:
Before you start making your suspenders, you’ll need a few supplies. You’ll need fabric, elastic, clips, and a sewing machine. Choose the fabric and elastic that you prefer. The clips should be metal and have teeth on them. These will keep the suspenders in place on your clothing. You can find these clips online, or at a local fabric store. Make sure to get enough fabric and elastic to fit the size of the suspenders you want.
Measurements:
Take measurements of the person who will be wearing the suspenders. You’ll need to measure from the back waistband of the pants, over the shoulder and then down to the front waistband of the pants. This will give you the length you need for the suspenders. You’ll also need to measure around the waist to figure out how much elastic you need to use.
Cut the Fabric and Elastic:
Now that you have your measurements, it’s time to cut the fabric and elastic. Cut two strips of fabric about 2.5 inches wide and the length you measured. Then, cut two strips of elastic the length you measured around the waist, plus an extra inch.
Attach the Clips:
Sew one end of each elastic strip onto one end of each fabric strip. Next, attach the metal clips to the other end of the fabric strips. Fold over the fabric at the end of the strip and sew it in place, making sure the clips are attached securely.
Assemble the Suspenders:
Finally, fold the fabric strips in half, right sides together, and sew them along the long edges. Turn them right side out and you have your homemade suspenders! Clip them onto your pants and adjust the length as needed.
