  • Toilet wax ring
  • Toilet flange bolts
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Putty knife
  • New toilet seat (optional)

Step 2: Remove the old toilet

The first step in installing a new toilet is to remove the old one. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the water supply by shutting off the water valve located behind the toilet.
  2. Flush the toilet to drain the water from the tank and bowl.
  3. Use a sponge or towel to soak up any remaining water in the bowl and tank.
  4. Disconnect the water supply line from the bottom of the tank using an adjustable wrench.
  5. Remove the nuts from the toilet flange bolts located on either side of the base of the toilet.
  6. Rock the toilet back and forth to break the wax seal, then lift the toilet off the flange and set it aside.
  7. Use a putty knife to scrape off any remaining wax from the flange.

Step 3: Install the new toilet

With the old toilet removed, it’s time to install the new one. Follow these steps:

  1. Place a new wax ring onto the flange, making sure it is centered.
  2. Line up the new toilet with the flange bolts and lower it onto the wax ring.
  3. Press down firmly on the toilet to seal it to the wax ring.
  4. Replace the nuts onto the flange bolts and tighten them with an adjustable wrench.
  5. Attach the water supply line to the bottom of the tank and tighten it with an adjustable wrench.
  6. Turn on the water supply and check for any leaks.
  7. If necessary, adjust the water level in the tank by adjusting the float valve.

Step 4: Replace the toilet seat (optional)

If you want to replace the toilet seat, follow these additional steps:

  1. Remove the old toilet seat by unscrewing the nuts on the underside of the bowl.
  2. Place the new toilet seat onto the bowl and line up the holes.
  3. Insert the bolts through the holes and tighten the nuts underneath until the seat is secure.

Step 5: Clean up and finish

Once the new toilet is installed and any optional upgrades are completed, it’s time to clean up and finish the job:

  1. Dispose of the old toilet properly according to local regulations.
  2. Wipe down the area around the toilet and remove any debris.
  3. Double-check that the toilet is securely in place and there are no leaks.
  4. Test the flush and ensure that the toilet is functioning correctly.
  5. Enjoy your newly installed toilet!
