Gather the necessary materials

To fold a napkin into a rose, you will need a cloth napkin, preferably a square one, and a flat surface to work on. It is also helpful to have some starch or fabric stiffener on hand to help give the rose a more defined shape. This can be purchased at a craft or fabric store.

Start with a square napkin

Begin by laying the napkin flat on a surface, ensuring that it is squared off neatly. If the napkin is not already a square, you can fold one corner diagonally to the opposite corner to create a square shape.

Fold the napkin in half diagonally

Take one corner of the square napkin and fold it diagonally to the opposite corner, creating a triangle shape. Make sure the edges are aligned and press the fold firmly to create a sharp crease.

Fold the napkin into a smaller triangle

Next, take one corner of the triangle and fold it towards the center, creating a smaller triangle shape. Repeat this on the opposite side, folding the other corner towards the center as well. Again, press the folds firmly to create sharp creases.

Begin folding the napkin to create the rose

With the smaller triangle pointing away from you, take the right corner of the napkin and fold it towards the center, creating a diagonal fold. Repeat this on the left side, folding the left corner towards the center as well. The napkin should now resemble a long, narrow shape with a diagonal fold running down the middle.

Now, beginning on one end of the folded napkin, start rolling it tightly towards the opposite end. As you roll, be sure to keep the edges aligned and the roll as tight as possible. This will give the rose a more defined shape and prevent it from unravelling.

Continue rolling the napkin until you reach the end, hiding the loose edges inside the roll. If desired, you can use a small dot of fabric stiffener or starch to secure the loose end and keep the rose shape intact.

That’s it! You have successfully folded a napkin into a rose. You can place the napkin rose on a plate or in a napkin ring for a decorative touch to your table setting.
