Why it’s important to clean a squeegee after use

A squeegee is a versatile cleaning tool used for a variety of tasks, from cleaning windows to removing excess water from floors. However, it’s essential to clean a squeegee properly after each use to maintain its effectiveness and prolong its lifespan. Neglecting to clean a squeegee can lead to the buildup of dirt, grime, and residue, which can affect its performance and leave streaks or smears during future uses.

Gather your cleaning supplies

Before you begin cleaning your squeegee, gather the necessary supplies. You will need a bucket or sink filled with warm soapy water, a soft-bristle brush or sponge, a clean cloth or paper towels, and a drying rack or towel to air dry the squeegee.

Remove debris and excess water

Start by removing any debris or excess water from the squeegee. You can use a clean cloth or paper towels to wipe away any visible dirt, dust, or hair. Make sure to clean both sides of the blade and the handle as well.

Clean the squeegee with soapy water

Dip the soft-bristle brush or sponge into the warm soapy water and gently scrub the squeegee blade. Pay particular attention to any areas with stubborn dirt or residue. Move the brush or sponge back and forth along the blade, applying enough pressure to remove any buildup but not too much as to damage the blade.

Rinse and air dry

Once you’re satisfied with the cleanliness of the squeegee, rinse it thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. Shake off any excess water and place the squeegee on a drying rack or towel to air dry completely before storing it.
