Materials you’ll need for your portable embroidery hoop stand

Creating a portable embroidery hoop stand will require a few materials that can be easily found at your local hardware store. You will need:

  • One 10-foot PVC pipe (1/2 inch diameter)
  • Two 1/2 inch PVC elbows
  • Two 1/2 inch PVC caps
  • Heavy-duty fabric or canvas (enough to make a base and back support)
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Scissors

Steps to create the PVC frame

First, cut the PVC pipe into the following lengths:

  • Two 2-foot pieces
  • Two 18-inch pieces
  • Two 12-inch pieces
  • Two 6-inch pieces

Using the PVC elbows, connect the 2-foot pieces to the 18-inch pieces to form the base. Attach the 12-inch pieces to the base using another set of elbows to create the back support. Finally, attach the 6-inch pieces to the top of the back support to hold the embroidery hoop in place. Cap all the ends of the PVC pipes to finish the frame.

Creating the fabric base and back support

Using the heavy-duty fabric or canvas, create a base for the frame by cutting a rectangle measuring 2 feet by 3 feet. Hem the edges of the fabric and attach it to the PVC base using a sewing machine.

Cut another rectangle measuring 1 foot by 1 1/2 feet for the back support. Hem the edges and attach it to the PVC frame using a sewing machine.

Attaching the embroidery hoop

Once the PVC frame and fabric base are assembled, you can easily attach the embroidery hoop to the stand. Simply place the hoop around the 6-inch PVC pipes and tighten it in place as usual.
