Measuring glasses typically come in various sizes and shapes, but they commonly measure liquids in ounces or milliliters. It’s essential to use the correct measurement glass for each recipe to ensure the measurement is accurate. Simply pour the ingredient into the measuring glass until it reaches the desired measurement on the glass.
Converting Measurements
Converting measurements from a measuring glass to other units can be confusing, but it’s relatively straightforward once you understand the math. For example, one fluid ounce is equivalent to 29.5735 milliliters, so to convert one fluid ounce of liquid to milliliters, multiply the fluid ounces by 29.5735. So, one fluid ounce is equivalent to 29.5735 milliliters, while two fluid ounces are equal to 59.147 ml (29.5735 x 2).
Measuring Glass to Cups or Tablespoons
If a recipe calls for a specific amount of liquid in cups or tablespoons, you can use the following conversions: one cup equals eight fluid ounces, one tablespoon equals 0.5 fluid ounces, and one teaspoon equals 0.1667 fluid ounces. So, to convert four fluid ounces to tablespoons, divide four by 0.5, which equals eight tablespoons.
Measuring Glass to Liters or Gallons
For larger quantities, measuring glasses may not be the best option. If a recipe calls for liquid measurements in liters or gallons, use the following conversions: one liter equals 33.814 fluid ounces, and one gallon equals 128 fluid ounces. So, to convert three liters to fluid ounces, multiply three by 33.814, which equals 101.442 fluid ounces.
