Why and how to clean your cat tree
Cat trees provide great entertainment and exercise for our feline friends. However, because they are regularly used by cats, they can quickly become dirty and even develop a foul odor. Regularly cleaning your cat tree is important not only for hygiene, but also for extending its lifespan.
Gather your cleaning supplies
Before you begin cleaning your cat tree, it’s important to have the right supplies on hand. You’ll need a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment, a soft-bristled brush, a mild detergent, and a clean cloth or sponge. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach, as they may damage the material.
Start with a thorough vacuuming
Begin by using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove any loose debris, such as cat hair, dirt, and litter. Make sure to go over every surface of the cat tree, including the base, poles, platforms, and any attached toys or accessories. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently loosen any stubborn debris that is trapped in the material.
Clean with a mild detergent
Next, mix a small amount of mild detergent with warm water in a bowl or bucket. Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the solution, wring out the excess water, and use it to wipe down the surfaces of the cat tree. Make sure to focus on any spots that are particularly dirty or have a bad odor. Rinse the cloth or sponge thoroughly with clean water and repeat the process as needed.
Dry thoroughly before use
After you’ve finished cleaning, take a dry cloth or towel and gently blot the surfaces of the cat tree to remove any excess moisture. Leave the cat tree in a well-ventilated area until it is completely dry before allowing your cat to use it again. You may also want to consider using a pet-safe disinfectant to kill any germs or bacteria that may be present.
