Gather your cleaning supplies
Before you begin cleaning your pasta machine, make sure you have all the necessary supplies. You will need dish soap, warm water, a soft brush or toothbrush, and a clean cloth or towel. You may also want to have a small bowl or container to hold the pasta scraps and any excess colored dough that needs to be removed from the machine.
Remove any excess dough
Start by removing any excess colored dough from the pasta machine. Use a small spatula or your fingers to gently scrape away any visible remnants. Be careful not to scratch or damage the machine’s surfaces while doing this. If the dough is stuck in the machine and difficult to remove, you can use a toothbrush or soft brush to dislodge it.
Disassemble the machine if necessary
Some pasta machines have removable parts that make the cleaning process easier. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to see if your machine can be disassembled for cleaning. If it can, carefully remove any parts that can be taken off, such as the cutting attachments or the handle.
If you do remove any parts, clean them separately using warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse them thoroughly and dry them completely before reassembling the machine.
Clean the machine with warm soapy water
Fill a sink or large basin with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Submerge the main body of the pasta machine in the soapy water and gently scrub it using a soft brush or cloth.
Pay special attention to the areas where the dough comes into contact with the machine, such as the rollers and the cutting attachments. Use the brush or cloth to remove any remaining colored dough or residue.
Once you have cleaned all the surfaces, rinse the machine under running water to remove any soap residue. Make sure to dry the machine thoroughly using a clean cloth or towel to prevent rusting or damage.
Store the pasta machine properly
After cleaning your pasta machine, make sure to store it properly to keep it in good condition. If your machine came with a storage case or box, place it back in there. If not, wrap it in a clean cloth or towel and store it in a dry, cool place.
It’s also a good idea to oil the machine’s moving parts to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. Use a food-grade oil, such as mineral oil or vegetable oil, and apply a thin layer to the rollers and other metal surfaces. Wipe away any excess oil with a clean cloth before storing the machine.
