Assess the Problem

Use a Toothpick or Threaded Insert
If the screw hole is too small or worn out to hold the screw securely, you can try using a toothpick or a threaded insert. For toothpick method, start by breaking off a small piece of a wooden toothpick and dipping it in wood glue. Insert the toothpick into the screw hole and break it off flush with the surface of the wood. The wood and glue will create a stronger hold for the screw. Alternatively, you can use a threaded insert, which is a metal cylinder with internal threads that can be screwed into the stripped hole. This provides a new and secure thread for the screw to grip onto.
Reinforce with Epoxy or Wood Filler
If the problem persists or you’re dealing with a larger hole, you may need to reinforce the area with epoxy or wood filler. This technique is commonly used for furniture with loose or damaged joints. Start by removing the loose screw and cleaning the area. Mix the epoxy or wood filler according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then apply it to the surrounding area or the entire joint. Reinsert the screw while the epoxy or wood filler is still wet and hold it in place until it dries. This will create a strong bond and provide additional support for the screw.
