Step-by-step guide to cleaning your prayer rug
A prayer rug is a sacred item that holds religious significance for Muslims. It is used during daily prayers and special occasions in mosques and homes. However, like any other textile, it requires cleaning to maintain its hygiene and prolong its life. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to clean a prayer rug:
Spot cleaning
If you notice any stains or spills on your rug, it’s best to attend to them immediately. Use a damp cloth and dab the affected area gently. Avoid rubbing the stain, as it can spread and damage the fabric. For tough stains, mix a solution of water and mild soap and apply it on the spot. Let it sit for a few minutes and blot it with a clean cloth. Rinse the area with water and let it dry completely.
Regular cleaning
It’s recommended to vacuum your prayer rug regularly to remove any dust, dirt or debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to avoid damaging the rug’s fibers. Start from one end and work your way to the other, making sure you cover the entire surface. Vacuum both sides of the rug to remove any loose dirt.
Deep cleaning
If your prayer rug hasn’t been cleaned for a while, it might require a more thorough cleaning. You can wash it by hand or in a washing machine, depending on the size and material of the rug.
