Our honest opinion about Amazon Polly

Amazon Polly is the best in breed when it comes to text to speech applications. Their English neural voices sound very natural. The service is accessible via an online no-code interface and via an API.

Cheapest premium plan: $4 per month

Amazon Polly is offered on a pay-as-you-go basis. For our calculation, we’ve taken 1 million characters read with the standard TTS voices. Neural TTS is 4 times more expensive. Amazon tells us that reading a Christmas Carol by Dickens, which amounts to 165 000 characters / 64 pages, will cost $0.66 with a basic voice and $2.64 with a neural quality voice.

Amazon Polly is best for

content creators who need a spoken version of their publications, at a very affordable price. The quality of the English neural voices is outstanding, sometimes so natural that you won’t notice it’s an AI-powered voice. At time of writing (November 2020)y ou don’t have access to the same quality for other languages.
