Choose the Right Recorder
The recorder comes in various sizes, and each size has its unique pitch. The soprano recorder is the most common and the easiest to learn. It’s best to start with the soprano recorder and then move to other sizes, such as alto or tenor, as you progress.
Learn Proper Technique
Learning the proper technique is crucial to becoming a good recorder player. Start by holding the recorder with your left hand at the top and your right hand at the bottom. Place your left thumb over the thumb hole at the back of the recorder, and place the first three fingers of your right hand over the top three holes at the front. The little finger goes over the hole at the bottom.
Master the Fingering
The recorder’s sound is created by covering and uncovering the holes. The recorder has seven finger holes, but when playing, you only need to cover six. Memorize the fingerings for each note and practice playing scales and simple tunes to improve your skills.
