5 Natural Ways to Clean Your Microwave Oven Without Harsh Chemicals
Keeping your microwave oven clean is important not only for hygiene but also for getting rid of any nasty smells that may have accumulated over time. Although harsh chemical cleaners can do the job quickly, they are not good for the environment or your health. Here are five natural ways to clean your microwave oven without using any harsh chemicals.
Vinegar and Water
Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for five minutes, then let it sit for a few minutes to allow the steam to loosen any dirt or grime. Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot), and wipe the inside of the microwave with a clean, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, dip the cloth in the vinegar solution and scrub gently.
Lemon Juice and Water
Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a microwave-safe bowl, then add one cup of water. Microwave on high for five minutes, then let it sit for a few minutes to allow the steam to work its magic. Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot), and wipe the inside of the microwave with a clean, damp cloth.
Baking Soda and Water
In a microwave-safe bowl, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one cup of water. Microwave on high for three minutes, then let it sit for a few minutes to allow the baking soda to work its magic. Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot), and wipe the inside of the microwave with a clean, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, dip the cloth in the baking soda solution and scrub gently.
Dish Soap and Water
In a microwave-safe bowl, mix a few drops of dish soap with one cup of water. Microwave on high for two to three minutes, then let it sit for a few minutes to allow the soap to work its magic. Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot), and wipe the inside of the microwave with a clean, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, dip the cloth in the solution and scrub gently.
Steam Cleaning
If your microwave oven has a steam cleaning function, use it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This will help loosen any dirt or grime, making it easier to wipe away. If your microwave oven does not have a steam cleaning function, you can create your own by placing a cup of water with a lemon slice or a tablespoon of vinegar in the microwave and heating it on high for several minutes until you see steam. Let the steam sit for a few minutes before wiping the inside of the microwave with a clean, damp cloth.
