Tools and Materials Needed
- Adjustable wrench
- Basin wrench
- Plumber’s putty or silicone sealant
- New faucet
- Teflon tape
Step 1: Turn Off Water Supply
Before doing anything, make sure to turn off the water supply valves under the sink. You don’t want to accidentally turn on the water while you’re working on the faucet.
Step 2: Remove Old Faucet
Use an adjustable wrench to remove the water supply lines from the old faucet. Then, use a basin wrench to unscrew the nuts that are holding the old faucet in place. Once the nuts are removed, carefully lift the old faucet out.
Step 3: Apply Plumber’s Putty or Silicone Sealant
Before installing the new faucet, apply plumber’s putty or silicone sealant around the base of the faucet to create a watertight seal.
Step 4: Install New Faucet
Place the new faucet in the holes on the sink and secure it in place with the nuts and basin wrench. Make sure to hand-tighten the nuts, and then use the basin wrench to tighten them more.
