Choosing the Right Fabrics
When making a pincushion with storage, it is important to choose the right fabrics that will complement each other and show off your personal style. Consider using cotton or wool felt for the pincushion itself, and a coordinating printed cotton fabric for the storage pocket. You can also add additional embellishments, such as lace, ribbon, or embroidery, to personalize your creation even further.
Measuring and Cutting the Fabrics
Before you begin sewing, take precise measurements of the fabrics you will be using. Cut a circle from the felt fabric for the pincushion, and a rectangle from the printed cotton fabric for the storage pocket. Use a ruler and fabric scissors to ensure that your cuts are straight and accurate.
Creating the Storage Pocket
To create the storage pocket, fold the rectangle of printed cotton fabric in half and sew along the two open sides, leaving the top open. Turn the pocket right side out and press with an iron. Position the pocket onto the felt circle where you want it to go, and then sew around the bottom and sides of the pocket to attach it to the pincushion.
Stuffing the Pincushion
The next step is to stuff the pincushion. Use polyester fiberfill or another stuffing material to fill the felt circle until it is firm and holds its shape. Be sure not to overstuff the pincushion, as this will make it too bulky and difficult to insert pins into.
Embellishing the Pincushion
After you have stuffed the pincushion, you can add any additional embellishments that you desire. Sew on beads, buttons, or appliques to give the pincushion a unique touch. Once you are satisfied with the finished product, your pincushion with storage is ready to use for all of your sewing needs!
